January 24, 1935 – June 7, 2020
South Bend-Ruth L. “Grammie” (Houp) Grisley was born January 24, 1935, to Charles and Rhoda Houp in Eastville, Pa. She graduated from Wampum High School. She was the seventh child out of ten living siblings. Ruth was the last surviving sibling. Ruth married William LeRoy Grisley in Wampum on June 2, 1956. Ruth loved hummingbirds and she always had a hummingbird feeder filled in her front window. She also had a large collection of Santas. She loved shopping for just the right Santas with just the right faces. Ruth and Bill had a lake cottage on Hardwood Lake in Michigan for almost 30 years. So many memories were made at the lake by the family. The lake is where Bill & Ruth’s daughter met her husband, and where their granddaughter learned to swim and fish. Ruth loved to travel with Bill, and they traveled to Hawaii several times, including taking their granddaughter when she graduated high school in 1999. They had traveled to Ireland to see Notre Dame play, and had also been to Sweden and many states as well. Ruth was liked and loved by many.
Ruth was welcomed with open arms by her late husband, William “Bill” Grisley on June 7, 2020. She is survived by her son, James “Jim” Grisley of South Bend; daughter, Linda (Grisley) Villwock of South Bend; granddaughter, Annie Burgamy (husband Bruce); two great-grandchildren, William “Will” Burgamy and Abigail “Abby” Burgamy of Mishawaka; and many loving nieces and nephews.
There will be no service for Ruth. Memorial contributions can be made to the Center for Hospice Care.
