Roland Franklin Hardy

                                                  December 31, 1945 – August 24, 2019

South Bend-Roland F. Hardy, 73, passed away August 24, 2019 surrounded by his Wife and Family, after a courageous fight with cancer.

Born December 31, 1945, he was the son of the late Roland and Florence (Glover) Hardy. His sister, Jeanette Hardy, also preceded him in death.

On November 15, 1997, Roland married the love of his life, Deborah Jean Haas. She survives him. Also left to cherish his memory are six children: Jim (Elizabeth) Hardy of GA, John Hardy of NE, Cressida Mark of NE, Christopher Hardy of South Bend, Jamie (Cory) Fortson of South Bend and Summer (Brett) Crandell of South Bend;  one brother, Phillip Hardy of NE; 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Roland was a very devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather.  He taught his children a great work ethic. Ron worked for the Sewer Department at The City of South Bend where he eventually retired from. He was an avid Cubs and Bears fan and he bled Blue and Gold. He was an usher at Notre Dame Football games for 35 years, and you could always find him in section 22. He had a great sense of humor, as well as a sentimental side. He was genuinely kind and a rare person. He enjoyed bowling and had been on several leagues. He proudly served our country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1966.  Ron was also the Neighborhood “Pa” to many kids who grew up in the Keller Park neighborhood. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

A celebration of life will be held Wednesday September 4, 2019 at Keller Park Church at 1003 Bryan St. in South Bend. There we will a gathering of Friends and Family at 5pm with a service at 6pm.

Memorial donations may be made, in Roland’s name, to McGann Hay Funeral Home, 2313 E. Edison Rd., South Bend, IN 46615, to help cover expenses.
