Robert Hal Ruble, known to his family and friends as Bob, passed away at the age of 90 on March 18, 2017 in Mason, OH. He was born in Atlanta, GA on April 11, 1926 and grew up in Aurora, IL. Following his WWII service as a Navy medic in Okinawa, he returned to Aurora and graduated from Aurora College.
In 1950 he moved to South Bend, IN, where he lived for the majority of his life until moving to the Cincinnati area last year to live with his son and daughter-in-law in Kings Mills.
He is survived by his son Bob (Marilou); daughter Connie of Mills River, NC; sister Sandra Hoskin (Jim) of Costa Rica; former wife Lynn Ruble of Hendersonville, NC; three grandchildren: Katy Metzner (Jeff), John Ruble (Kari), and Emilyn Whitesell (Cody); and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Rosemary in May 2007.
Bob was employed by Bendix Corporation for 37 years, most recently as superintendent of manufacturing for carbon brakes. He retired in 1987 and served for a time as president of the Bendix Salaried Employees Club. He earned an MBA from Michigan State University in 1964. He had been an avid golfer, private pilot, and boating enthusiast. Bob was an Eagle Scout as a boy and was very involved with his son’s Boy Scout troop and with Council training.
Bob was active in the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA), where he served as a national chief steward and also served two terms as regional executive. He was a competition driver of Formula V and Formula C cars.
His current passion was playing bridge, and he had obtained the rank of life master in the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL).
Following cremation, burial will be at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. No services are planned.
