Karen Sue Kirkpatrick, 78, passed away August 2, 2020.
Born April 26, 1942, Karen was the daughter of the late Britton Franklin Kirkpatrick and Frances Loraine (Carr) Kirkpatrick.
She is survived by: son, Britt Francis (Samantha Hofferth Francis) of Munster, IN; grandson, Xavier Hofferth; sister, Kay Rybicki (Bob) of Mishawaka; niece, Shelly Longfellow (Joey Beher) of Kokomo, IN; nephew, Matt Longfellow (Tracy) of South Bend; and cousin, Sharon Carr of Merrillville, IN.
Karen received her undergraduate degree in Education from Ball State University and her Masters Degree from Indiana University South Bend.
Karen was an excellent English teacher and taught in many different school corporations. She also held several business administrative positions throughout her life. Karen loved animals, in particular, her dog Ransom, and many others that she fostered. She also loved riding horses; Babe, Johnel and Buddy all who passed before her.
Her last several years had been spent researching and attempting to recover the remains of her cousin, Major Donald (Butch) Carr, who went missing in 1970 in South East Asia during the Vietnam War.
Per her request there will be no service or celebration of life. Karen has requested that her ashes be spread over a grazing horse pasture.
The family would like to thank Kathy, Karen’s neighbor, for being her close friend and taking care of her this past year.
