Eilene Marie Hays

                 December 11, 1938 — January 3, 2017

Eilene Marie Hays, 78, passed away peacefully January 3, 2017.
Born in Ann Arbor and raised in Dexter, Michigan, Eilene and her parents, the late Martin and Hazel (Jones) Farrell spent much of their time at her grandparents farm on Farrell Rd. Upon graduating from Dexter High School at the age of sixteen she went to work as a bookkeeper.
Eilene’s first love was flying as a stewardess for North Central Airlines. It was through her work that she met and married the late Dorman (Jim) Dake. Eilene and Jim had two children during their first marriage – son, Timothy (Michele) Dake of Milwaukee; daughter, Kim (Pat) Kelly of South Bend.
Eilene and Jim divorced then later remarried. Their favorite “child” Heidi came during that period.
Eilene and Jim separated again but remained the best of friends. In the fall of 1983 Eilene married the late Duane Hays, gaining son Ken Hays and his wife Deborah as part of the package.
Eilene always worked outside the home, returning to bookkeeping and accounting management roles, as well as owning and operating several small businesses.
An avid genealogist, Eilene was very proud to be a member of the Captain Samuel Felt Chapter of the DAR.
A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Eilene will be dearly missed. Her favorite legacy includes her 3 children, son, Timothy (Michele) Dake of Milwaukee; and his children, Lara (Alonso) Chairez of FL and Korey Verhein of Woods Hole, MA; daughter, Kim (Pat) Kelly of South Bend; and their children, Carolyn (Craig) DeVliegher of South Bend; and Mitchell Kelly of Indianapolis, and Mark Kelly of South Bend; and son, Ken (Deborah) Hays of Granger; and their son, Dr. Robert Hays of Granger, and their daughter, Katie (Scott) Gordon of TN. She is also survived by her brother, David (Pamela) Farrell of Whitmore Lake, MI; three great-grandchildren, Chase and Kinsie DeVliegher and Zack Gordon; and two nieces, Sarah Farrell-Belasco of Ferndale, MI and Gretchen (Jason) Wagner of St. Johns, MI.
