December 22, 1931 – June 10, 2016
David Lee “Dave” Finch, 84, died June 10, 2016, with his family by his side, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. He was born December 22, 1931 to the late Alvena and Harley Finch.
On May 3, 1952, Dave married the love of his life, Phyllis Unterkircher. She survives. To their union, they were blessed with five children, Barbara (Paul) Suppinger of Simpsonville, SC, Kathy (Wally) Pollock of South Bend, Joel (Karen) Finch and Laura (Alan) Rzepka, both of Granger, IN, and Ann (Mark) Shellen of South Bend. He is also survived by his stepmother, Charlene Finch of White Pigeon; stepbrother, Curt Finch of Kalamazoo; stepsister, Felicia Gorediaby of E. Lansing, MI; 11 grandchildren, Rachael, Amy, Missy, Danny, Lisa, Jess, Evan, Drew, Brian, CJ and Erika; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Dave belonged to the Bendix-Honeywell Bowling and Golfing Leagues. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed fast pitch softball. More than anything, though, he loved his family. He was very protective of his wife and children, but always in a caring way. He was lovingly known as “Papa Bear” to his kid’s friends. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 17 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, Edwardsburg, MI at 12PM, with visitation one hour prior in the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of the Lake, or to the Cass County COA, where they treated David with so much compassion; and provided his family with a lot of helpful information.
