Charles Joseph Goepfrich

Charles Joseph Goepfrich, 85, passed away Friday June 17th, 2016 at Hospice House, with loved ones at his side.
Chuck was born on September 13, 1930 in South Bend, IN, to the late Rudolph and Nellie Goepfrich.
On April 14, 1951, Chuck married the love of his life, Shirley Anne Kost of Walkerton IN, who survives.
They were married for 65 years and were blessed with 5 children: Christine A. Hall of Mishawaka, Mark C. (Julie) Goepfrich of Granger, Thomas R. (Josie) Goepfrich of South Bend, John E.”Jack” Goepfrich of Rodgersville, AL, and Jill Anne Goepfrich who preceded him in death.

Chuck had 10 grandchildren: Adam (Kate) Dobbins, Aaron (Christi) Dobbins, Brian Hall, Amy (Randy) Holland, Amanda (Jason) Hertel, Meghan (Stephen) Pozywio, Melissa (Will) Jurek, Lisa Goepfrich, Michael Goepfrich, and Sam Goepfrich. He also had 12 great-grandchildren.
Chuck is survived by two sister: Helen (Thomas) Collins, Mishawaka and Margaret Zmudzinski, South Bend; a sister-in-law Katherine (Mel) Chrapliwy, Walkerton, IN, a brother-in-law John E. (Jack) Kost of Plainfield, IN, and many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law Joan and Don Stevens and brother-in-law Leo Zmudzinski.
Chuck was a graduate of South Bend Central Catholic and was drafted by the Chicago Cubs out of high school. He then spent 50 years in the tool and die trade retiring in 2000.
Chuck enjoyed fishing at his family cottage and was very proud of his 8 ½ lb. large mouth bass. A long time member of American Turners Chuck enjoyed bowling in many leagues while making life long friends.
Chuck enjoyed many sports, was an avid Notre Dame fan, and a big Jeff Gordon, NASCAR fan.
Visitation with the family will be held on Monday June 20th, 2016 from 5pm till 8pm, at the University Chapel of McGann Hay Funeral Home at 2313 East Edison Road, South Bend, IN.
Chuck will be interned at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Osceola, IN at a later date.
In lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions may be made to The American Diabetes Association, or the charity of your choice.
