EDWARDSBURG – Barbara Jean (Ernsting) Kyler, 88, passed away peacefully in her home with her loved ones closeby.
Barbara was born in Indianapolis on July 19, 1929, to the late William Henry Ernsting and Julietta (Gally) Ponder. Also in Indianapolis, on June 6, 1950, she married Rudolph Harry Kyler, Jr.; he passed away December 16, 2002. Barbara talked her father into letting her take a riding lesson when she was 11 years old and has said that this began her lifelong love of horses. Barbara was the owner of Falcon Run Farms in Indianapolis for many years where she boarded horses and taught riding lessons. Barbara and Rudy helped found the Indianapolis Charity Horse Show in 1974 and both have been inducted into the Indiana Horseman’s Hall of Fame. After retiring in 2000, Barbara moved to Edwardsburg, MI where she enjoyed playing dominos with her friends.
She and Rudolph were blessed with five loving children: a daughter, Kathy (Matt) Geary of Edwardsburg; and four sons, Ken (Kathleen) Kyler of Middletown, MD, Kelly Kyler, Kris (Dona) Kyler, and Kurt Kyler all of Indianapolis. There are also seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren who will cherish their memories of Barbara.
No services are being planned at this time. Cremation has been entrusted to McGann Hay Funerals / Cremations / Gatherings, Granger Chapel and their American Cremation Society in South Bend.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made to Indianapolis Charity Horse Show, 2915 Rolling Springs Dr., Carmel, IN 46033.
